Setup prompts ScanDisk when running from Win 3.1x or MS-DOS due to automatic.
Cause:
Windows 95 Setup automatically scans the hard disk for errors during installation. In this case, errors are detected on the drive and Setup will prompt the user to run 'ScanDisk' and fix these errors.
Solution:
Type A:SCANDISK.EXE /ALL if installing from diskettes or D:\WIN95\SCANDISK.EXE /ALL if installing from CD-ROM, press ENTER, and follow instructions.
1) If you are installing over Windows 3.1x, then exit Windows.
2) Do one of the following to run the ScanDisk Program:
a) If installing from diskettes:
1] Insert Setup diskette 1 in the floppy drive.
2] Type the following, and press ENTER:
<drive>:SCANDISK.EXE /ALL
(where <drive> is the floppy-drive letter).
(The 'ScanDisk' dialog box appears.)
b) If installing from a CD-ROM:
1] Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
2] Type the following, and press ENTER:
<drive>:\WIN95\SCANDISK.EXE /ALL
(where <drive> is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
(The 'ScanDisk' dialog box appears.)
3) In the 'ScanDisk' dialog box, select the desired drive from the 'Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors' list box.

4) Select the 'Thorough' radio button in the 'Type of test' group.
5) Select the 'Automatically fix errors' check box.
6) Click 'Start' to begin ScanDisk. (When ScanDisk is complete, the 'ScanDisk Results' dialog box appears.)
7) Click 'Close'. (The 'ScanDisk Results' dialog box closes, and the 'ScanDisk' dialog box reappears.)
8) Click 'Close' to close the 'ScanDisk' dialog box.
